Planning a Wedding on a Budget

Planning a Wedding on a Budget

There’s no escaping the fact that weddings aren’t cheap. However, some weddings cost considerably more than others, and this all comes down to you and the budget you are prepared to set. Having a lower budget doesn’t necessarily have to restrict you in any way when it comes to planning a wedding, but rather there are certain alternatives you could look at in order to make the costs a bit lower. Furthermore, none of these things have to impact the wedding day itself in any way and it can still be enjoyed and remain a special and memorable day for all.

So, here are a few ways that you can make wedding planning on a budget a little bit easier…

Make your invitation list smaller

The less guests you have to cater for, the less money you will have to spend. Although weddings are a big celebration and are about the joining together of two different families, it is really only your nearest and dearest that need to be there. If you have quite a low wedding budget and are looking for ways to cut costs, a good way to do this is to just invite your closest friends and family. This might mean having a slightly smaller and more intimate wedding, but the day will be just as special nonetheless, if not more so! Sometimes, people go a little overboard at their wedding and want to invite practically everyone they know, however this isn’t completely necessary, and it will mean just as much to you and your partner if only your closest friends and relatives are invited.

Have an outdoor wedding

One of the biggest costs and most expensive parts of a wedding, is hiring a venue. Everyone wants to find the perfect location for their wedding day, and this is something that involves a considerable amount of money. Lots of traditional weddings are held in churches, however there are allsorts of different venues you can get married in. A different route you could go down and in fact, often a much cheaper alternative, is to get married outdoors. This has far lower costs than hiring an indoor venue. Whether it is a public area or private land, having an outdoor wedding is something to consider when it comes to cutting costs and planning on a lower budget. The downfall to this is that there are of course weather restrictions, so this is only something you should look at if you are planning a summer wedding!

DIY wedding invitations

It’s time for you to get creative! Although you may not think it, paying to have wedding invitations made can actually be pretty costly. Depending on the design you want is what makes the price vary, however if you are planning a wedding on a lower budget, this is an area that you could save yourself a bit of money. This could be as simple as comparing prices from different design and print companies to find the best deal, or you could actually get creative and make the invitations yourself. If you are someone with a creative flare, this is a perfect opportunity for you to cut costs and get involved in designing these!

Rent tuxedos for the ushers

Another very expensive part of a wedding, is paying for dresses for bridesmaids and tuxedos for the ushers. However, one way to make this easier when wedding planning on a lower budget, is to rent tuxedos rather than buying them. Furthermore, when you rent as a group as opposed to just one for example, you will often find that there are group rates and discounts.

Choose an unpopular time

If you are not really looking to get married in a particular time of year or on a specific day, a great way to budget your money better is to go for a less popular time. This means that everything involved with the wedding, from the venue to the catering, will have less demand and therefore charge a lower price. During peak times, these prices will be pushed higher, which is why we advise choosing less popular days and seasons to consider. For example, getting married on a weekday as opposed to a weekend – this is far less popular and straight away means that the venue will face less demand and any services involved may be able to offer you a discount or the service at a lower price. The downfall of having your wedding on a weekday is that less people may be able to attend or it will be harder for people to get the time off. However, if you are limiting the amount of invitations, this may not be as big of an issue.
